Latenights@Lightbulb: Strobe Photo For Filmmakers

LIGHTBULB GRIP & ELECTRIC is hosting an evening about Strobe Photography basics for cinematographers and gaffers. It's an incredibly useful skill, but one that may not come as naturally as working with continuous lighting.

We’ll be led by Dan Wang, former lighting tech / grip truck driver / do-all in New York. Dan currently is a Product Manager at Hasselblad Bron US, and has worked extensively on both the production and manufacturing sides of the creative arts.

You’ll learn the basic setup and operations of strobes, power management, output control, and what you need to know to get running with flash for most situations.

After a 45 minute lecture, we'll break out into two workshop groups to try the theories and techniques he showed us with real demo equipment.

- Understand the basics of working with Strobe hardware
- Become reacquainted with shooting styles/settings that best accomodate strobes
- Get to try the skills out on real hardware with a teacher present.
- Learn about simple setups to do quick headshots, product photography, and fashion stills.
- Have an opportunity to network with a group of working filmmakers in NYC!
LATENIGHTS @ LIGHTBULB is a weekly fillm seminar, lecture, and workshop series for filmmakers, by filmmakers. We teach because we believe that smarter filmmakers explore larger artistic horizons, become more engaged in the community, and become better customers!

DIRECTIONS: L train to Grand St, walk three blocks west. Or Q54/Q59 bus to Morgan Ave/Grand St stop. If you hit the smokestack or BP Station, you went too far. Look for our loading dock logo, and then head for the stairs under the trees!
