In December we took a visit out West for our Pro Lighting and Assistant Training workshops with Andy Batt. Based in Portland, OR, Andy is a director, photographer, and author. In addition to his amazing commercial and editorial work, Andy is an all-around expert when it comes to the technical know-how for lighting.
Pro Lighting workshops feature a day-long in depth look at communicating emotion and idea with light. Using the best tools available, Pro Lighting workshops give you the skills to walk into any creative situation and tell a story using anything from simple tools to unique light shapers.
Assistant Training is designed to equip working professional assistants with the technical skills to confidently use broncolor equipment in any situation. Andy ran down a critical working knowledge of common gear, including Scoro, RFS, and Paras, as well as common scenarios such as freezing motion, mixing continuous light, and working with multiple lampheads.
Using the Sequence feature, the workshop crew created this great image of professional freerunner Sydney Olson. With a sequence of repeated flashes over a long shutter duration, each flash creates a ‘ghosted’ image of Sydney, showing the arc of movement.
